Three paths through the first age
Story, research and a great wonder now give the first age three different kinds of progress.
An age in Heirs of Ages is more than a sequence of battles. The first age brings together three goals: complete its main story, develop the final research, and build its great wonder. Each asks something different of the player.
The story takes your heroes into the frontier. Research puts you in charge of a team: recruit specialists, train them, and turn theory into something useful. A researcher can discover a problem during a project and ask a hero to investigate. Work waits for that help, then continues from where it stopped. An unsuccessful approach can also make a later attempt shorter and more likely to succeed.
The first-age wonder is a lighthouse. Its construction grows through ten stages, with blueprint pieces earned through building contracts. Three puzzle types are being tested: lay roads, rotate existing connections, and move obstacles to open a route. The lighthouse changes its appearance as construction advances.
The shared economy is also being tested: a commodity market, a bank and a separate contracts office. Players compete to claim common offers. These systems are still being balanced in internal playtests; this update is a look at development, rather than an announcement of public access.
